As part of the University of East Anglia term consultancy, we were asked to revitalise a relatively well used but ageing refectory building within the heart of the Denis Lasden designed masterplan. The design solution, working within a very tight budget, was to create a new two storey glazed atria space, giving the building a more spacious feel internally and simplifying circulation, whilst creating a minimal interior touch to the main public dining spaces. The completed building was nominated for a regional RIBA design award, both on its own merits and also its insertion into its unique environment.
